Choosing A Good Dentist
If you are trying to choose a dentist for you or your children then there are several things to consider before you make a decision.
When trying to select a dentist you should look at 8 different factors about the dentist and his practice.
First you should find out how long the dentist has been in practice. A newer dentist isn't necessarily a bad thing because everybody has to start somewhere but some people just feel more comfortable with a more established dentist. Usually younger dentists start out at someone else's office and then eventually get their own practice.
Secondly you should find out about the dentists training. You should find out how much clinical experience he has and the extent to which is education reaches. For example, some dentist cannot do more complex procedures because they simply don't have the training. It just depends if you want an all in one dentist or not.
The third thing you should check is what professional dental associations the potential dentist is involved in. Its good to have a dentist who is involved and up to date with new things within the field of dentistry
Then after that you should find out if the dentists offers any type of emergency dental services. Especially off hours emergencies.
Fifth you should ask about what types of things your dentist uses for sedation. Its all in your preference and you need to make sure that dentist has what you prefer.
Sixth you need to ask about what types of cosmetic dentistry the dentist offers. Lots don't offer much in this area.
Seventh, you should check and see if your dentist recommends that you and your children use and electric toothbrush. If the dentist doesn't then he probably doesn't really care about the health of your teeth and would rather see you coming back often for procedures. There really wouldn't be any other explanation. A Sonicare toothbrush is so far superior that a dentist would have to recommend it in anyones best interest.
Finally the last thing you need to do is inquire about what insurance your dentist accepts and how much visiting the dentist will cost you.
